Facebook Account Suspended — A Story About AI and Faulty Customer Services

04/06/2025

Here is a short blog but probably very insightful about this issue I am currently suffering from. I will keep it updated as more information will come out.

I was planning to share my experience from the 2025 edition of the International Informatics Olympiad in Teams, which just concluded (it will come in a later post). But while reviewing photos and preparing a post, Meta suddenly suspended my Facebook account — citing a violation of Community Standards that I know I didn’t commit, and what was worse was the lack of any sort of a warning or explanation beyond the automated message.

I’ve already submitted an appeal and hope this is just an error — my Facebook account is primarily used to cross-post content from LinkedIn and manage Pages related to competitive programming and problem-solving. Yet this situation highlights a growing concern: when automated systems take sensitive actions, and they get it wrong, the consequences can be significant.

I believe in the long-term value of AI in service platforms — but false positives at this scale undermine user trust. In recent weeks, I’ve seen a surge in similar cases across Facebook, and it's troubling to think of how many people could lose access to personal memories, communities, and professional resources without any sort of a chance to get them back.

For me, this isn’t just a social media profile. My account is tied to communities reaching thousands of people passionate about algorithms, education, and problem-solving. Losing that connection — even temporarily — disrupts a lot more than a newsfeed.

If anyone in my network has insights or contacts at Meta who could help escalate this, I’d be truly grateful. Even sharing this post helps raise awareness — not just for me, but for others who may not have the technical knowledge or resources to recover from something like this.

In addition, if you have some info that could help me and you could share (or you are linked in some way to Meta), I would be grateful if you can contact me on Linkedin or using my mail address.

You can access the Linkedin post here as well.

UPD: On June 11, my account was restored after having filled the form regarding the access from another device! I'm glad this got resolved in the end and I hope this process can be made more transparent in the future.
